Nantou tea region includes Nantou city, Jhongliao Township, Guosing Township, Puli Township and Yuchih Township. Tea plantations are spread from 300 to 1000 meters above sea level. Major varietals of the region include Qing Xin Oolong, Jinxuan, Cuiyu, Sijichun and Asamudaye. The region produces mostly low altitude oolong teas. While available in large quantities and great prices, the oolong teas comes with excellent quality and rich tastes.

Yuchih Township is where Sun Moon Lake, the most well-known lake in Taiwan, is located. This township produces limited amounts of high quality black teas known as sun moon black tea. It is one of few black tea production areas in Taiwan.
